Who Should Register: Members of the public experiencing loss and grief, members of the clergy, pastors and pastoral counselors, marriage and divorce counselors, chaplains, funeral directors and counselors, school counselors and teachers, nurses, social workers, lawyers, psychologists, physicans, surgeons, disability and rehabilitation counselors, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, airline employees, insurance counselors, credit counselors, banking and financial representatives, accountants, military personnel, professional counselors, members of helping professions.
Course Objective: To acquire knowledge related to many types of loss and the skills for healing grief and moving forward in one’s life.
Prerequisites: 1) Sincere desire to help others. 2) Literacy in the English language.
Topics:
1. The many kinds of loss common to human experience: breakup, death of a loved one, divorce, bankruptcy, terminal illness, permanent disability, and many others.
2. The range of painful emotions of grief and bereavement related to different types of loss.
3. The unfinished business or unspoken words and unresolved issues related to loss and grief, especially in the death of a loved one and terminal illness.
4. The process of letting go and saying goodbye to a loss in order to reconstruct one’s life and move forward.
5. How to identify and change unhealthy patterns and behaviours resulting from grief and how to adopt healthy behaviors in the recovery process.

Assignments (completed by email):
1. Give the answers to a set of questions from the text covering the topics of the course listed above.
2. Write a brief essay on your own losses and related emotions and effects.
Time for completion: Allowing 2 hours per day, the course can be completed in less than one week but no time limitation is required.
